About College of Marxism Studies
The College of Marxism Studies (the College) of Nanjing University of Astronautics and Aeronautics (NUAA) was established in 2015. Together with its predecessor, Marxism and Leninism Teaching and Research Section, which was created with the University back in the 1950s, the College has over the past 60 years contributed significantly to producing talents and to the building of a multiple disciplinary, research-oriented NUAA.
Currently, the College comprises five teaching and research sections, viz. the fundamentals of Marxism, ideology and morality and the basics of law, the modern/contemporary history of China, Marxism adapted to the Chinese socioeconomic conditions, and political theories for graduate students. It also runs such centres as The Marxism Studies Research Centre and The Marxism and Social Development Research Centre. It grants doctorates in the Fundamentals of Marxism (second level discipline) and master’s degrees in Marxist Theories (first level discipline). Also operating from the College are Jiangsu Research Base for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the Communist Youth League Research Base for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and platforms like the think-tank of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In 2015, its discipline of Marxist Theories was officially elected as one of the Jiangsu provincial priority fields of study.
The College boasts qualified faculty well balanced in terms of age, titles and specialty. Currently on board are over 30 faculty members, including 5 full professors and 22 associate professors. One of them enjoys the title of National Eminent Teacher, and some are recipients of the funds earmarked for the Provincial Project 333, kicked off in 1997 to foster 30 internationally famous scientists, engineers, and theorists, 300 nationally famous excellent scholars, and 3,000 excellent talents on the municipal level, and for the provincial Qinglan Project (generation-outshine-generation project). The titles, honors and awards the College has so far earned include, among others, National Labour Day Medal, National Model Teacher Award, National Excellent Teacher of Ideology and Politics, Ministry of Education New Era Excellent Talent, Jiangsu Excellent Teacher, Jiangsu Young Expert with Outstanding Contributions, Jiangsu Excellent Adviser of Graduate Students, Jiangsu Young Leading Scholar, and NUAA Excellent Teacher.
The College has never lost sight of its central role, i.e. to combine teaching with research. Partly under the pressure to retain its authority to confer doctorates in the Fundamentals of Marxism and master’s degrees in Marxist Theories, the College and its faculty have been committed to conducting research, curriculum construction, and training talents. To date,we have reaped some benefits of our Herculean efforts. In a sort of virtuous circle, the teaching of political science and its intensive Marxist research are reinforcing each other. Consequently, we have made some achievements both in teaching and in research, which has won the College considerable acclaim.
We find ourselves at the starting point for further progress as a great opportunity has presented itself. The Party Central Committee is re-endorsing the Marxist studies and the ideology and morality teaching in colleges across the country; so, we shall strive to rank ours among the first-rate, nationally/provincially renowned Colleges of Marxist Studies by upholding the banner of Marxism, cultivating a superior team of teaching faculty, offering a series of ideology and politics courses, building a leading Marxist discipline, sharpening our competitive edge, and increasing the academic influence of our work.
